Sponsor a Student

Small Investment, Life Long Impact

Every month, local immigrants and former refugees work hard to improve their English so they can later study at a university, build a career, and create a better future. Many of our local students cannot afford to study without the help of our donor-funded scholarship program. For just $40 a month you can sponsor a student's scholarship and be part of their journey.

Roberto is a doctor from Cuba who relocated to the US with his wife and son. Needing to gain English skills before he could continue his career in the U.S., he studied English at Immerse for fourteen hours a week while also working full-time in a warehouse.

Thanks to a generous scholarship from Immerse, he was able to study for a year and a half in our program, which prepared him for completing his RN degree. He is now enrolled in the Nurse Practitioner program at Millersville University and is already using his skills to bless our community and train other nurses through his work at Union Community Care.

FAQs

  • After students are accepted into the Intensive English Language Program (IELP), they may request a scholarship application to help cover tuition costs. The application asks students to describe their goals and their current financial situation. The Director, Education reviews the application and discusses with the student what portion of the tuition they are able to pay with their current financial situation.

  • Full scholarships are rare, and usually only when there is a recommendation from a local teacher or community member that attest to the student’s circumstances. We are committed to making it possible for each student to study regardless of financial ability, while at the same time encouraging students to invest in their own education.

  • Scholarships are funded by gifts from individuals, churches, businesses and foundations that desire to empower our international neighbors. Immerse does not receive government funding.

  • Tuition at the IELP is about $225/week for the 14-hour/week program.

  • Most students hear about Immerse because of a referral from a current or former student. We also have strong partnerships with local high school ESL programs, and other community ESL programs that regularly refer students to us who need an intensive program to prepare for university.

  • Yes, Immerse is accredited by the Commission on English Language Accreditation (CEA), the same accreditation that is carried by many university English language programs.
